Getting to Jamestown

Jamestown is easiest when you decide whether this is a straightforward drive, a Colonial Parkway scenic route, or a broader Historic Triangle trip with the ferry or airports folded in on purpose.

Arrival map

Williamsburg sets up the Jamestown arrival.

This map shows the main arrival choices before the rest of the trip gets locked in. Williamsburg is the primary approach to compare first. Richmond is the helpful backup or add-on choice. The lines are planning corridors, not turn-by-turn road geometry, so use live directions before you drive.

  • Tap a marker to see how each town fits the drive.
  • Solid line is the main approach; dashed lines are alternate regional approaches.

Driving is the default smart move

Most Jamestown trips are strongest by car. That gives you the freedom to handle the site, the parkway, Williamsburg dinners, and any Yorktown or ferry add-on without turning logistics into the main story.

Use the Colonial Parkway when the route matters

If you are pairing Jamestown with Williamsburg or Yorktown, the parkway is often the best and most atmospheric way to keep the day feeling connected instead of like separate errands.

Airports matter only for bigger loops

For fly-in trips, Richmond International and Newport News Williamsburg are the practical choices. But Jamestown is usually a regional drive destination first, not a flight-centered city break.

Arrival basics

  • Drive by default unless you already know the trip is built around staying in Williamsburg without a car.
  • If you want the day to feel scenic, budget time for the Colonial Parkway instead of only the fastest road routing.
  • Use the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry as a scenic bonus or route variation with enough time to enjoy it.
  • If you are staying overnight, pick a hotel neighborhood first, then let that determine whether Jamestown or Williamsburg leads the arrival day.
  • Amtrak and rideshare can work via Williamsburg, but Jamestown itself is much easier when you have your own car.
